The reimagined Battlestar Galactica is one of my all-time favourite TV shows. From the opening attack on the Twelve Colonies, it completely pulled me in. The sense of desperation never really goes away, with what is left of humanity constantly trying to survive, stay together and work out what kind of civilisation they still want to be. The characters are a huge part of why it works so well. They are flawed, complicated and memorable, and over the course of the series I became incredibly invested in them.

What I love most is how much the show manages to fit into its story without ever losing that core feeling of survival. There are huge space battles, political conflicts, religious ideas, betrayals, impossible decisions and some genuinely brilliant character moments. Even when the mythology gets bigger and stranger, I was still completely along for the ride. Few shows have kept me this invested from beginning to end, and even now it remains one of the best science fiction series I have ever watched.
